Description:
The Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund is intended to provide resources to increase the flow of racial and ethnic minority students into the legal profession.
Who Should Apply:
The applicant must be an entering, first-year law student in the 2016 academic year. Only students beginning law school in the 2016 academic year will be eligible for an ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship.
Fellowship Benefits:
By agreeing to participate, a law school commits to provide either matching funds or a tuition waiver equivalent to the amount provided by the Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund for any recipient attending their law school. A law school that agrees to participate in the program will provide funds only if an ABA scholarship recipient attends that school.
Program Duration:
An award made to an entering first-year student may be renewed for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school.
Number & Amount Available:
The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund provides 20 incoming diverse students with $15,000 in aid over the course of their three years in law school.
